We have matched the ideal type of rice grain to suit each cuisine, for example we use Arborio rice for Chicken and Bacon Risotto, basmati for Mild Indian Rice, etc. These rice varieties have different flavours and textures, so if possible it is good to try these varieties. In some cases, we have suggested substitute rice, which is also suitable.

Although not ideal, brown rice is still suitable for using with our recipe bases and will impart an earthy, nutty flavour to the meal. You may however need to gauge your own liquid levels and cooking times. Generally you will need about 50 % more water if converting to brown rice and we also suggest you stir half way through cooking.

If using a rice cooker appliance, we recommend you follow the instructions for brown rice from your appliance instruction booklet. In addition, it is recommended you leave rice on the KEEP WARM setting for at least 20 minutes.
