Heat oil in a large pan over HIGH heat. Brown beef on all sides, then add to slow cooker with potatoes.
Combine 3/4 cup (180 mL) water and recipe base then pour over beef. Cover and cook for 6 hours on HIGH or 10 hours on LOW (Keep covered during cooking. Cooking times may vary between slow cooker models, we used a 5.5 L appliance).
Serve with steamed baby carrots and peas.
Create a rich pasta sauce by adding tomato passata to remaining gravy and shredded beef, heat and serve over pasta.
